- i'm having trouble with my micropolis 2217 (non-av, 1.7gig) scsi drive. it
- was working fine until a couple of nights ago when i took it out of my
- pentium-based clone system and placed it on my warp drive's scsi chain. (i
- did this because the warp scsi didn't recognize one of the drives on its
- chain.) well, the warp recognized the micropolis, i formated it, and was
- satisfied that the other scsi drive was misbehaving. (lo and behold,
- reinstalling the other scsi drive resulted in its working again!?)
-
- anyhow, i reinstalled the micropolis on the pentium's adaptec 2940 controller
- and ran fdisk. i had a power glitch (no, i didn't have the ups on the
- pentium!) and the system rebooted in the middle of fdisk prepping the drive.
- i then attempted to use fdisk on the drive again. "unable to acces
- drive 2" was the returned message. i then attempted to use the 2940's
- format drive utility. nothing, it would lock-up after a few seconds of
- formatting. using adaptec's scsi "verify medium" utility, i get the following
- info back from the hard drive:
-
- scsi cdb sent 03 00 00 00 0e 00 70 00 03 00
- controller status no controller errors
- target status 02h - check condition
- sense key 03h - medium error
- sense code 31h
- sense qualifier 00h
-
- i then attempted to reinstall it on the warp. initializing would lock up.
- using warp's hard drive toolbox, i could not save a new configuration to the
- drive.
-
- i then placed it on the flyer's c-chain. the flyer scsi utilities would not
- even recognize the drive.
-
- what has happened?
-
- i'll post this to the appropriate ibm-compatible news group(s) and send an
- e-mail to micropolis, but i would appreciate any insight any of you would have.
-
- oh, i brought the drive into work so i can attempt any suggestions on the
- gateway 2000/trantor scsi controller.
-
- thanks in advance.
